While 800,000 federal government employees are going without pay following a partial United States government shutdown, millions of Venezuelans have poured into the streets of Caracas in support of Juan Guaido, the head of Venezuela’s National Assembly, and the country’s now interim President. The president of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump, officially recognized Mr. Guaido as the legitimate leader of the south American nation just hours ago.

Canada, Brazil, Colombia and Paraguay followed the POTUS in recognizing Mr.Guaido as Venezuela’s acting head of state.

Venezuela’s President, Nicolas Maduro, a long-time confidant of the late Hugo Chavez, won a second term as President of Venezuela in May of 2018 in an election not recognized by the United Nations, the European Union, and the Lima Group.

Maduro responded to the US by severing diplomatic ties and ordering their diplomats to leave the oil-rich nation within 72 hours.

Venezuela is reeling from inflation estimated to be over 2 Million percent, with millions fleeing the country seeking food, shelter and work anywhere they can find it.
